Introduction:- Thomas Edison was the great inventor and businessman of America.  His full name was Thomas Alva Edison.  Thomas Edison has invented many things like electric bulb, phonograph.  Edison is credited with setting up the world's first laboratory.  Thomas Edison is counted among the greatest inventors of the world because he is the only person in America to own 1093 patents alone.


Early life:- Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847, in the city of Milan, Ohio, USA.  His mother's name was Nancy Mathew and his father's name was Samuel Ogden Edison.  Thomas Edison was the youngest of seven siblings.  Due to hearing loss, he did not start speaking till the age of 4.  After the age of 4, he slowly started speaking.


Education :- His schooling lasted only 12 weeks.  Edison had lost his hearing since a childhood illness.  Due to not being able to hear clearly, he could not understand any lesson at once.  Also, due to his inquisitive nature, he used to ask many questions to the teachers.  Fed up with his questions, one of his teachers labeled him 'retarded'.  When this news reached Edison's mother, she felt so bad that she took Edison out of school.  She was a teacher, so she started teaching him at home.


Personal life: - On the occasion of Christmas in 1871, 24-year-old Edison married 16-year-old Mary Stilwell.  Within just two months of meeting Mary, Edison proposed her for marriage.  He had three children with Mary.  Edison's wife Mary died in 1884 after a long illness.  After his wife's death, Edison left Mellano Park and, in 1886, remarried Mina Miller, and moved into a home in Llewellyn Park, West Orange.


Professional Career :- Thomas Edison started selling newspapers near a railway station at the age of about 12 years.  After doing this work, Thomas Edison had built a small laboratory with the remaining money.  In which Thomas Edison used to experiment.  After this, Thomas Edison did more work and with the remaining money bought the chemical material used in the laboratory.  Thomas Alva Edison used to experiment in the laboratory in the remaining time after completing the work of newspapers.  Thomas Alva Edison believed that if a person continuously strives on the path of improvement.  So he can do something big in his coming time.  After this Thomas Edison sold newspapers at the railway station till the age of 15.  He was selling newspapers as usual.  Then the master of the railway station told him about the telegram and after that Thomas Edison worked as a telephone operator till the age of 20.

Discovery of Electric Bulb:- Thomas Edison continued this work for almost 2 years, after that Thomas Edison started the search for electric bulb.  Thomas Edison made about 1000 types of electricity.  But the sisters failed.  But Thomas Edison's amazing patience, strength and courage was so strong that even after failing so many times, Thomas Edison did not give up and made every effort to make his work successful.  Finally, the invention of the electric bulb was completed by Thomas Edison on October 21, 1879.  He lit the electric bulb for more than 40 hours.  This invention is the biggest gift to the world by Thomas Edison.
