 An Election Scene

Introduction: India is a democratic country. Elections are essential in a democratic country. Every citizen aged 18 or more has a right to vote. In India elections are held after every five years. The recent election to Parliament was held in April-May 2019.

The Candidates: The Election Commission of India declared the election in the month of March. It fixed the dates for election all over the country. Candidates of different parties like BJP, BSP, SP, RLD, etc. were allotted tickets. They started the election campaign in their constituencies with great leaders of their parties. They told the voters about their manifestos and shortcomings of candidates of opposite parties. They influenced the voters to cast their votes in their favour.

Polling Centers: Many polling centers were fixed throughout every constituency. The candidates had pitched their tents outside evey booth. Workers and supporters were sitting in them. They were giving slips prepared with the help of voter list. Police were deployed at every booth to maintain peace and order. Polling officers were sitting inside the polling booth and they were doing their polling duties.

Casting of Votes: Election was started at 7 a.m. Voters were standing in the line to cast their votes. Every voter had voter slip and identity card in his/her hand. One-by-one voters were going inside the booth. The agents of different parties were helping the voters and polling officers. When I reached the polling booth, I presented my voter slip to (polling officer) PO1. He allowed me by marking my name in the voter list and sent to PO2 who asked me to put my sign and gave slip which I gave to PO3 who marked my left hand finger with black ink. He pressed the button of control unit and allowed me to vote going in a covered place where Ballot Unit was kept. I pressed the button of my favour and my vote was casted. I see it in VVPAT machine with my eyes.

Conclusion: The Polling was quite brisk till 12 O'clock. But after an hour a big crowd of female voters reached the polling booth and polling went on with full speed. At 6 p.m. there were only two voters. The polling came to an end at exact 6 p.m. Fortunately no unhappy event took place.
